According to an article on Netwerk24, the latest developments in the language policy case between Gelyke Kanse and Stellenbosch University is that both parties as amicus curae (friends of the court), want to form part of a similar case in the Free State.

The Free State University recently lost its case in the High Court in the Free State against AfriForum about the approval of the Free State University’s new language policy. However the Free State University appealed the decision and took it to the court of appeal in Bloemfontein.

Last week (middle October 2016), Stellenbosch University wrote to the court of appeal and asked if they could be included in the case as friends of the court. Stellenbosch University never informed Gelyke Kanse about this decision. Danie Rossouw, Gelyke Kanse lawyer, confirmed that Gelyke Kanse also requested that they be included in the court appeal proceedings. “It’s just fair that Gelyke Kanse also gets included,” says Rossouw.
