According to an article on News24, a new lobby group for the preservation of Afrikaans at Stellenbosch University, led by poet Breyten Breytenbach, was founded on Tuesday.

The group known as Gelyke Kanse, was founded by several prominent Afrikaans figures who believe that a solid, wholehearted and sustainable offer for Afrikaans at Stellenbosch University, is not up for debate.

The coordinator of the group, lawyer Danie Rossouw, states: “We aim to digitally set in motion the preservation of Afrikaans at Stellenbosch University, so as to include the public, and not only academics and the court.”

“The language debate at several university campuses and specifically Stellenbosch University, is in the public’s interest for numerous reasons.”
