Our Firm

Attorneys West & Rossouw, succinctly known as “AWR”, is a team of attorneys, notaries and conveyancers dedicated to meeting our clients needs in all spheres of legal services.

Our head office is situated in the picturesque Noordhoek Valley on the Cape Peninsula. Our branch offices are located in Simon’s Town, Paarl and Strand. In addition, our attorneys are available to meet via online consultations or at an alternative location.

Company Founders

Sharon West, Director

Sharon commenced her working career in a law firm in 1987. With her growing interest for the law, she progressed as a paralegal in 2000 where she gained experience in conveyancing and property law, notarial practice, and practice management. This gave impetus to further her studies, and she was admitted as an attorney, notary, and conveyancer in 2010. With Sharon’s vast experience in all aspects of a legal practice, she spearheads the firm’s property law, conveyancing and estates department providing services to a wide range of clients, foreign property investors, banks, property developers, estate agents and private individuals.

Daniel Rossouw, Consultant

Daniel began his law career in Pretoria, Gauteng, where he opened his own law firm in 1994. Having relocated to Cape Town in 1996, Daniel and Sharon West teamed up to establish the current firm, which has a significant footprint in the ‘Deep South’ of Cape Town. Daniel has a strong interest in family law and High Court litigation, with vast experience in several jurisdictions and high-profile cases in the High Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court. Through Daniel’s knowledge of the world of media and entertainment his clientele extends to music artists, celebrities, television, and film production houses. Daniel has been actively involved in the organized profession and served on the Cape Law Society and the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) communication committees and several years as vice-president of the Cape Town Southern Suburbs Attorneys’ Association. During August of 2022, Daniel was appointed by the Premier of the Western Cape, Alan Winde as the Western Cape Government’s representative on the Council of the Stellenbosch University. Daniel has a passion for his family, music, and aviation, where he has qualified as a private pilot.

Attorneys

Cris Riego de Dios, Consultant

Cris is a senior commercial and litigation attorney with more than twenty years’ experience. Cris specializes in general commercial work and the drafting of contracts, commercial litigation, property law and deceased estates, general civil litigation, and dispute resolution. Having a keen interest in the advancement of law in the business community, Cris has been involved in lecturing at a tertiary education level, presenting legal seminars and workshops, and he has been a regular participant in radio, television and other media communication platforms. Cris is also an article contributor to the LexisNexis Property Law Digest publication. Away from the law, Cris is passionate about his faith, family, and sports, especially hockey, where he represents South Africa at the Masters level.

Louis Loock, Associate

Louis not only has a passion for practicing law, he loves flying and is also a well known and respected singer, having formed part of the successful and acclaimed vocal group, Romanz. Having obtained his Honours Degree in Theatre / Drama, Louis applies his legal knowledge with intuition – finding creative solutions to every legal matter he attends to. Louis specializes in media law, medical law, education law and the Law of Succession, with his primary passion and interests lying in the field of Constitutional Law. When not at the office, Louis enjoys the outdoors, takes regular camping trips with his family, and also enjoys playing tennis.

Jean-Luc Theron, Professional Assistant

Jean-Luc is a true local having grown up in Kommetjie while completing his primary and secondary schooling at South African College High School (SACS) in Newlands, Cape Town. He attended the University of Cape Town where he read for his Bachelor of Social Science degree. Having obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree at the University of South Africa, Jean-Luc joined the firm as a candidate attorney in 2014 and stayed on as a professional assistant following his admission as an attorney and conveyancer in 2016. Jean-Luc is particularly passionate about property and consumer law and is a seasoned litigator. He enjoys bodyboarding, in Kommetjieis a keen chess player and is an avid music lover.

Lelanie Stopforth, Associate

Lelanie was admitted as an attorney with right of appearance in the High Court in March 2011. She joined the firm during 2019 having relocated to the Western Cape from Potchefstroom. Lelanie has exceptional Military Court experience spanning over a period of more than 10 years. Not surprisingly, Lelanie heads the firm’s Simon’s Town office where she represents several clients from the Navy and other sections of the National Defence Force. In addition, she is registered as a service provider on several legal services panels, which include SANDU (Soldiers), Judicare Legal-Aid, LIPCO Law for all, Scorpion Legal and Clientèle Legal. Lelanie’s areas of practice include Criminal and Labour Law, Consumer and Credit Law, Debt Counselling and Family Law.
